Bruins win preseason opener against Montreal

The Bruins throttled the Habs 8-3 tonight in their preseason opener in Halifax.

Marco Sturm and Vladimir Sobotka scored twice each to lead the Boston offence, while Andrew Ference, P.J. Axelsson, Aaron Ward and Patrice Bergeron also joined the scoring parade.

Welcome back Bergy.

Bruins will remain in Halifax for the next few days; practicing Tuesday and Wednesday before taking on the Red Wings again on Metro Center ice Thursday night.

Glen Murray Clears Waivers

No shocker here folks.

Glen Murray, who was placed on unconditional waivers Wednesday, was not claimed by any NHL team prior to today’s 12 p.m. deadline.

The Bruins will most likely complete Murray’s buyout tomorrow.

Bruins just got better.

Pelletier Gone

In a deal of two AHLers, the Bruins traded slick forward Pascal Pelletier to Chicago for forward Martin St. Pierre.

I think the Hawks won this deal, but for Pelletier , it will give him a much better shot at seeing NHL duty in 08/09.

Don’t expect St. Pierre to see any valuable minutes in Boston this season. He’ll start the season in Providence and will only see ice with the big club if the injury bug hits hard.

Four years - $15.75 million

My sources have told me that Bruins have locked up defenseman Dennis Wideman to a 4-year deal today.

This may not hit the air waves until late this evening or tomorrow morning.

Bruins Open 2008/09 Season on Road

Wish I had more exciting news to share - such as the release of a certain right winger whose first name rhymes with hen.

Sorry.

The 2008-2009 Schedule is hot off the press.

The Bruins start their 2008-2009 campaign with a four game road trip where they will visit Colorado (Oct 9th), Minnesota, Montreal and Ottawa. Well, we won’t have to wait long for Lucic vs Laraque Take I - they’ll be dropping the gloves in game 3 - so check off your calander now.

Boston’s home opener goes Monday, October 20 against Sid the Kid’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

Patrice Bergeron Injury Update: Cleared for contact

Patrice Bergeron was cleared today for full contact practice - and joined his team on the ice.

As to when he will return to game action - that remains all speculation. I’m going to guess we MIGHT see him by game 5 of the Montreal series. That will give Bergy another 1.5 weeks of contact practice and gym work to get his body ready.

Savard Update

Still no word on when Marc Savard will return to action. We might be looking at Game 4 before he returns - giving him another full week of recovery time.

David Krejci will shoulder the offensive load until the B’s top forwards return to action. Let’s hope the rook is ready for it.

Marc Savard has broken back

Broken back is the word on the street.

Sounds bad right?

Well, Savvy could be back on ice this upcoming weekend. The broken bone is called a transverse process - and isn’t thought to be too serious.

He’s definitely OUT tomorrow night versus the Leafs.

Marc Savard Injury Update

Bruins Center Marc Savard, victim of a nasty Steve Begin cross-check on Saturday night, did not practice with the team this morning and his status for tomorrow nights game in Toronto is uncertain.

Savard left Saturday nights game just before the final buzzer went off in regulation time in their 3-2 OT loss to Montreal. He looked to be in significant pain as he left for the bench. He did not participate in overtime - nor the game deciding shootout.

If Savvy can’t go, expect David Krecji to take over as the pivot on the top scoring line.
